MSHA announced on September 28th the results of their August impact inspections. These inspections have been an enforcement tool MSHA started using with regularity in April of 2010. Mine ID’s merit the special attention by MSHA based on several criteria: poor compliance history, hazard complaints/hotline calls, fatalities, and rounding out the top four justifications in August, operator tactics. MSHA has performed approximately 1,000 inspections and issued almost 15,000 citations as a result of this initiative. MSHA’s Monthly Impact Inspection List for August 2015 can be found here.
